About us
Hume orchestra was founded in 2019 as a community-based orchestra providing opportunities for musicians and music students in the northern suburbs of Melbourne to perform classical music together.
Our friendly orchestra has players from primary school age through to retirement years.
The conductor and musical director is David Osborne, a violinist and composer of note. He is currently a teacher at Gladstone Park Primary School, where he shares his skills with new generations, teaching around 90 students. He continues working with many students well beyond their primary years in his private studio.
David's talents also extend to music arrangement. To make sure that music is accessible to all players and that all parts of a piece are covered by the orchestra, David arranges parts for different instruments.
In 2024 David arranged Mussorgsky's 'Pictures at an Exhibition' for the whole orchestra. A massive achievement!
What makes Hume a great Orchestra to play in?
Hume Community Orchestra provides a friendly and welcoming environment for younger musicians to play alongside more experienced musicians, many of whom are also music educators who delight in supporting other players and seeing the orchestra flourish.
Our three concerts annually give the players a chance to perform the pieces we have practiced each term, along with guest choirs and musicians, to an audience of local residents, family and friends.
A part for everyone to play
If the part is too complex for a player, David arranges a part for them to play!
Players of all ages
Younger players benefit from playing alongside more experienced players.
